996 Series - Litho Ink

This is a system whereby the design is printed with special 996 Series Litho Inks on high speed lithographic presses. The designs are then backed by screen printed 554 Litho Clear, 555 White Plastisol Ink or 556 Low Bleed. Litho inks will bond with plastisol when heat transferred. 554 Litho Clear - a clear backing for 996 litho printed transfers(mesh count - 110/inch). 555 White is a standard backing. 556 Low Bleed Litho White is an opaque backing that resists dye bleed and is ideal for 50/50 blend or other troublesome fabrics. Mesh counts up to 80 to 110/inch can be used with 996 Series. Also available in Phthalate Free (call for details).

Technical Information for Excalibur® 996 Series

Lithographic Printing and Production: The graphic design is printed with standard printing procedures. Most conventional sheet fed presses and dampening systems can be used. Therefore, the printer has the latitude of choosing any subject, either single color or two color, or four color process as well. It is important to note that, in the case of four color process printing, it is suggested that black be printed first, blue and red second or third and yellow last. The suggested color rotation should be followed on both single and multicolor presses. Ink which has been allowed to set overnight may show signs of picking and poor trapping when subsequent colors are printed.

Printing: After the sheets are lithographically printed a plastisol coating must be applied onto the image area. This should be done within 24 to 36 hours after litho printing. The screen coating is usually opaque white so it will transfer onto dark backgrounds. Transparent coatings and glitter inks are also available. Screen print the 555 Litho White through a 110/inch (44T cm) mesh. Process the transfers through a dryer being careful not to over-gel the plastisol. The plastisol will gel at approximately 250°F (121°C) for 20-60 seconds.

Release Paper: Transfert 75 or equivalent will give excellent results.

To Test: Let the transfer cool and feel if ink is wet. Peel the plastisol from the release paper and stretch. If it breaks easily, it is probably gelled correctly. If the ink stretches it probably over-gelled and will not transfer or wash well.

Transferring Method and Properties: Temperature of 350°F-375°F (177°C-191°C) for 12 to 20 secs. Use a medium durometer squeegee pressure (70). These transfers work well on Cotton and Cotton Polyester blend fabrics for T-shirts and sweat shirts. These transfers will also work on wool, linen and acrylic knitted goods.

Producing Litho/Glitter Transfers

Transfer Paper: G-97 Glitter Transfer Paper is recommended.

Screen Mesh: 900 Glitter - A screen mesh of 24-30/inch (10T-12T cm) is recommended.

Gelling / Temperature: 250°F-300°F (121°C-151°C) for 30-60 seconds.

Transferring: 350°F (177°C) for 10-15 seconds at medium pressure for transferring.

Squeegee: A medium durometer (70) squeegee is recommended.
