Technical Information for The Duratex® Transfer System
General Details: Duratex will air dry or can be force dried using a conveyor dryer. It is recommended to use an adhesive system for proper adhesion and wash fastness.
Transfer Papers: T75, T105, Tullis CP or Transfilm Clear Film.
Stencil System: Use water resistant phthalate free direct emulsion
Adhesive Systems: C57 Hot Melt Powder or DX 1245 Duratex Printable Adhesive.
C57 Hot Melt Powder: Powder should be applied to the wet ink and then heat cured at 320°F to 350°F (160°C to 175°C).
DX 1245 Duratex Printable Adhesive: To be screen printed over the dried inks. It should overlap the print slightly to prevent edges from lifting, and then heat cured at 320°F to 350°F (160°C to 175°C).
Screen Mesh: For spot colors use 80 to 160 inches (32T to 64T cm); Litho backing 80 to 120/inch (32T to 48T cm); DX 1245 Printable adhesive 80 to 110/in (32T to 44T cm).
Printing Procedure: Litho Print transfers: offset or litho print using 996 Series Litho Transfer Four color process inks. After offset or litho printing the Duratex white backing is applied by screen. For proper adhesion to fabric an adhesive must be used. If using C57 Hot melt powder; apply powder to the wet Duratex white backing and cure through a dryer at 320°F to 350°F (160°C to 175°C).
DX1245 Printable Adhesive: The white backing should be dried first either air dry or by forced hot air. The DX1245 is then screen printed over the white backing. It should overlap the white backing slightly. The final print is then cured at 320°F to 350°F (160°C to 175°C).
Spot Color Screen Print Transfer: Prints should be allowed to dry between colors either by air drying or force drying with warm air in a conveyor dryer. After printing adhesive must be applied (see adhesive systems).
Additives: Duratex DX 1200 Retarder may be used in limited quantities to slow the drying time of the printing inks (3 to 6%).
Ink Cleanup: Wash with warm water after printing.
Heat Transfer Application: Transfers may be applied at 320°F to 390°F (160°C to 200°C) for 10 to 25 seconds and cold peeled. Lower temperatures require longer application time.
